Today’s Japanese word is “Sakura” (Cherry Blossoms).
“Sakura” is one of Japanese favorite flowers. There are various kinds in a “Sakura”.
I will introduce some of them.
1) Somei yoshino (Prunus yedoensis)
80% of the famous places of a Japanese cherry tree are this cherry tree.
The color is pale pink. And it is single-bloom.
These flowers are best viewed from early April.
Points of interest: Minami Akagi Senbon Sakura (Gunma).
2) Kohigan-zakura (early flowering cherry tree)
It is pink darker than a “Somei yoshino” cherry tree. And it is small flowers bloom.
These flowers are best viewed from early April.
Points of interest: Takato Castle Ruins Park (Nagano).
3) Yae-zakura (double cherry blossom)
It is a flower with many petals like a rose. “Yae” is the meaning as “many and piled one”. Representative varieties are “Kanzan” “Ichiyo” etc..
These flowers are best viewed from mid-April.
Points of interest: Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden (Tokyo).
4) Shidare-zakura (weeping cherry)
This cherry tree has drooping branches. It will be like a curtain, so it is very beautiful.
Representative varieties are “Beni-shidare” etc..
