January 2021 : “FUYU” (The Japanese winter) Box

The theme of this January box is “Fuyu”(the winter season).

By the way, do you know “Kotatsu”?
“Kotatsu” is a traditional Japanese heating appliance.
It consists of a low table, a heat source, and a “Kotatusu-Buton” (coverlet of “Kotatsu”).
In the old days, “coal” was used as the heat source of “Kotatsu”.
I haven’t used coal now. Instead, an electric heater is the heat source.
Electric heaters are generally installed on the underside of the table.

“Kotatsu” is not set directly on the floorboard. We make it on a fluffy “Kotatsu” rug (it is almost dedicated to “Kotatsu”).
Then, cover the “Kotatsu” with a “Kotatusu-Buton”. This “Kotatusu- Buton” is mostly square and can cover the “Kotatsu” without any gaps.
Thanks to this “futon”, you can keep the “Kotatsu” warm.
After, switch on the heat source. And when you go inside the “Kotatsu”, your feet get very warm.
If there is a “Kotatsu”, everyone will gather there. Of course, cats too.
“Kotatsu” is also a place for family communication.
“Kotatsu” is one of the fun traditions of Japan.
