"Kikyou"

Today’s Japanese word “Aki-no-nanakusa” (the seven kinds of flower in autumn).

“Aki-no-nanakusa” is the seven kinds of flower to represent Japan in the autumn.

This “Aki-no-nana-kusa” is different to the “Haru-no-nana-kusa” (seven herbs in spring).
“Haru-no-nana-kusa” is eat put in porridge. But, “Aki-no-nanakusa” can not eat. These are the flowers to watch.

By the way, these “the seven kinds of flower in autumn” was chosen by the old poet “Yamanoue no Okura”.
He have written seven autumn flowers poem in “Manyou-shu” (Manyou-shu tanka collection).
Those flowers are got close to afterwards.

– Kikyo (Bellflower)
– Nadeshiko (Pink)
– Ominaeshi
– Kuzu
– Hujibakama (Thoroughwort)
