Today’s Japanese manners is “chozu” or “temizu” (hand water).
“Chozu” is the water which purifies a hand before worship.
Normally, pass through the main gate and you find “chozu-ya” or “Mizu-ya”.
“Chozu-ya” is the place purify hands and a mouth before praying at the Shinto shrine.
There are several methods of “chozu”, but today we will introduce general manners.
1) hold a “hishaku” (ladle) in the right hand and draw water.
2) cleanse over the left hand.
3) shift a “hishaku” to the left hand.
4) cleanse over the right hand.
5) hold “hishaku” in the right hand again.
6) save water over the left hand and rinse out a mouth with that water.
7) cleanse again over the left hand.
8) finally, put up a “hishaku” and spread water on the handle.
9) put back a “hishaku”.
When you do the this manner smoothly, it’s so cool, isn’t it?
