“Meiji Jingu” is a shrine dedicated to spirits of Emperor Meiji and his consort, Empress Shoken in 1920. The spacious shrine grounds offer spiritual walking paths that are great for relaxing souls.
A massive “torii” gate guards the whole “Meiji Jingu”, where all bothersome corners of the city are left behind the moment you walk into the spiritual land. “Meiji Jingu” forest surrounds you with 100, 000 trees and also gentle nature of inner Garden.
There is a small well located within the garden. “Kiyomasa’s Well” is named after a military commander who dug it around 400 years ago. The well was visited by the Emperor and Empress while they were alive and has become a popular spiritual “power spot”.
So what else can you do at “Meiji Jingu”? There are typical Shinto activities, such as making offerings at the main hall, buying charms and amulets or writing out one’s wish on an “ema”. And if you’re lucky enough, you will be able to see traditional Shinto weddings taking place here.
