Today’s Japanese word is “Mochi-tsuki” (pounded boiled rice into mochi).
“Mochi-tsuki” is to use the “Kine” (pestle) and “Usu” (mortar), and crush the steamed “Mochi-gome” (glutinous rice).
Well, today I will introduce the origin of “Mochi-tsuki”.
The Japanese are agricultural peoples. From old days, japanese people made rice and lived. And “Mochi” of the processed food of the rice was “special food” of the days of the festival day.
New Year’s day is the most important event in a year.
Naturally, we will make “Mochi” during the year-end and New Year holidays.
That is also “Mochi”, which has the most important meaning in a year.
Year-end “Mochi” making is one of preparations for New Year’s. This is the “Mochi” to make “Kagami-mochi” (round rice cake offered to gods at New Year’s) mainly. “Kagami-mochi” is a gift to the New Year’s god (God who visits New Year).
We put it into “Zou-ni” (the soup contained rice cakes) and eat.
“Mochi-tsuki” is very fun!
