[ Mt. Nokogiri @ Chiba ]

Mount Nokogiri is a peaceful paradise place about 40 miles from the hustle and bustle of Chiba. It is named for its striking saw-like shape!

From its humble early days as a stone quarry in the Edo period, it is Japan’s most breathtaking spectacles. There are the great many unique sights.

The hike up to the mountain’s “Nihon-ji” temple will be enjoyable. There are not only spectacular views of Tokyo Bay, but also a cavalcade of hidden treasures such as the 1500 hand-carved arhat sculptures that guard the pathways. The relief of “Daibutsu” is carved into the quarry walls.

The “Jigoku-Nozoki” (View of Hell) should also not be missed. But it is definitely not for the people having the weak of heart!
We can go to the top by the “Nokogiriyama Ropeway” for about 3 minutes.

Of course, the most memorable sight is the astonishing carving of Yakushi Nyorai, the largest stone daibutsu in Japan, which will stay with any traveler for a lifetime.
